MEDICINAL PROPERTIES OF VIRGIN COCONUT OIL
Numerous books have been written about the coconut and its amazing medicinal properties. "Coconut Cures" by Bruce Fife goes into great depth on the subject.

Virgin coconut oil is rich in lauric acid which is known for being anti-viral and anti-bacterial. It is also high in antioxidants which have the ability to neutralise harmful free radicals in your body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that cause destruction wherever they go. They are associated with over 60 common health problems - cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease to mention just a few.

A SKIN AND HAIR CONDITIONER
No less impressive is the long list of  beautifying and healing effects virgin coconut oil can bestow upon your skin. In the tropics, it has been used for thousands of years as a skin and hair lotion. It is a very light oil, easily absorbed into the skin and scalp, moisturises and protects from sun and wind damage and is high in vitamin E and natural glycerin. It is known to be a superb cleanser and is highly valued for its conditioning of the skin.
A SKIN HEALER
Recent research has shown very positive effects with sufferers of eczema and psoriasis - many people claiming virgin coconut oil to be more effective than their prescription creams. It has also been found to heal and repair damaged skin tissue, assist in the prevention of liver spots and other blemishes and again, because of its high level of antioxidants, help prevent the formation of wrinkles.

THE MAMAS OF MAFIA
All of the pure virgin coconut oil that goes into our soaps, is freshly hand produced for us here on Mafia Island, by local village women using totally traditional methods. No chemical or intense heat treatment is used, hence all the nutrients remain intact.  Each village base is a small cottage industry in its own right, providing a very welcome and otherwise hard to come by  income for the village mamas.
